The iRiver iFP-100 series - The affordable child-safe mp3 music player solution

By Rebecca Blain

The iRiver iFP-100 series combines the features that make a good digital audio music player with an affordable price.

By doing this, and including a strong casing, the iFP-100 series makes the perfect gift for children old enough to be interested in players, but too young to be trusted with a several hundred dollar hifi deluxe system.

Ranging between 128 megs of data storage space in the iFP-180T player to 256 megs of data storage in the iFP-190T player, parents can select the one that suits their child or young teenager without breaking the bank account in order to buy them one. Ranging from between $79-99, there are few players that boast the same functionality for the cost.

The iFP-180T, the cheapest of the two models, has hifi quality sound that rates in with a S/N Ratio of 90dB for MP3 music tunes and 50dB for FM radio. One battery is enough to power the unit for up to 20 hours. Weighing in at only 32 grams without battery, it is light enough for children or young teenagers of any age to handle easily.

The built in voice recording capabilities make it useful for school as well, letting kids make recordings of tasks they need to do while still having tunes for the bus ride or between after school activities. The iFP-190T sports the same sound quality, but with more space and a slightly different look.

In order to be able to make full use of this series, you or your children will need a computer that has at least USB 1.1 support. In order to be able to make use of the included software, you will need Windows XP with Service Pack 1 or newer.
