The iRiver iFP-1000 series: High definition audio with digital photography capabilities

By Rebecca Blain

The iRiver iFP-1000 series comes packed with everything you need in order to play up to either 8 or 17 hours of your favorite music while taking advantage of photography capabilities.

The system, available in the iFP-1095 and iFP-1090 models, takes the convenience of a digital camera, the benefits of flash memory, and high quality sound to give you a portable electronic multi-media solution. The full color display allows you to view pictures you have take or have stored onto the device, letting you choose which images you want to keep or get rid of. If you only have music, the display will show you the song name and artist to help you select the music you want to hear while on the go.

The iFP-1090 model of the iRiver iFP-1000 series includes 256 megs of internal memory. This allows you to play roughly 8 hours of music, encoded at 64 kbs with Windows Media Player. The iFP-1095 model, sporting identical features as the iFP-1090, has twice the amount of data space available.

The camera within the iFP-1000 series is a .3 mega pixel system with 3x digital zoom capabilities. This gives you a respectable digital camera that allows you a decent amount of control over how you take your photographs. When using the camera, it is important to know that due to the style of display in the camera, your photos may have slightly different color tones than what is displayed on the screen. This is usually in the favor of the pictures looking crisper and more vibrant, but in some circumstances, it may work in the opposite manner.

In order to make full use of this iRiver series camera and digital music player, you will need a computer that is running Microsoft XP with at least an Intel Pentium 233 with 64 megs of ram.
