The iRiver iFP-700 series digital audio player for students

By Rebecca Blain

The iRiver iFP-700 series flash digital audio player makes one of the ultimate portable players (toys) for college students.

By combining a respectable amount of space -- 1 gb for the most expensive model, and 128 megs for the least expensive -- with high audio quality, students can enjoy their favorite tunes between classes, use it to record lectures, and even transfer classwork to and from each lesson with the touch of a button. With the model line's stylish looks, you can enjoy all of the benefits while having a system that you are not ashamed to wear openly.

With up to 40 hours of battery life on one AA battery, students can take their device wherever they want without fear of having to spend a great deal of money to listen to their tunes all day long.

This, coupled with the fact that the best model, the iFP-799, can store up to 34 hours of continuous music. With 64 kbs encoding through Windows Media Player, this is almost a day and a half of non-repeated music. With that much space, you can even have a mixture of regular data files and music and not lack for any tunes.

For the more active students, the iRiver iFP-700 series is compatible with a special water proof case that lets you take your music out into the rain without any risks of damage to the device.

This, coupled with the convenient band, make certain you can truly go anywhere and do anything while having high quality sound. As the device out puts at 90dB S/N on MP3 tunes and 60dB S/N on FM Radio, there is little cause for complaint. While it isn't quite as good as a full fledged high definition sound system, it comes very close.

In order to make the best use of one of the iFP-700 series players, you will need to have a system that has full USB 2.0 support.
