The iRiver iFP-900 series: A Beginner's Stylish Portable Digital Audio Player

By Rebecca Blain

The iRiver iFP-900 series is designed to give all of the advanced options of more expensive players for beginners.

By coupling style, a respectable amount of data storage space with an intuitive interface, beginners can learn how to work a digital music player while enjoying high quality sound. The system, providing a S/N ration of 90dB, is better than what is found in many cheaper category players on the market today.

The LCD low temperature poly silicon display, sporting 260,000 colors, shows you relevant data on the songs that you are listening to. This makes programming and viewing your play list extremely easy, which is a requirement for those unfamiliar with using digital music players.

When considering the iRiver iFP-900 series, you will find that you have several options in price, functionality, and color.

The cheapest of the three is the iFP-990. Costing roughly $199, it has 256 megs of internal memory, a stylish silver and platinum look, as well as the standard iFP-900 features.

The middle of the road model, the iFP-995, costs roughly $249 and has 512 megs of internal memory. This device has a medium gray and silver coloration.

Finally, the high end model is the iFP-999. This system has 1GB of internal memory, all of the bells and whistles expected in a high end player, and a nearly black with medium gray coloration. You can purchase this system for roughly $299.

Before you purchase your own iFP-900 series player, you will want to make certain that you have all of the requirements to make the best use of the device.

In order to take advantage of the included software, you will need a computer running Windows XP with an Intel Pentium 233 with 64 megs of ram or better. This will ensure that you can work with the device as it was intended. You will also want USB 2.0 compatibility, as this will guarantee you can transfer your files to the device as quickly as possible.
