What does iPod stand for? The meaning behind the name.

By Rebecca Blain

To discover what does iPod stand for, you must step back and look at the device as a whole.

At first glance, the player has a strange name that does not really reflect on the high level of quality that users enjoy. However, at a deeper glance, the name fits the bold mp3 player rather well.

One of the most popular characteristics of the iPod is how easy it is to use. The click wheel, combined with the high quality sound the device gives, lets each user be submerged in their own little private world.

It is this characteristic, of bing able to totally control your sound environment, that gives the iPod its name. Much like an enclosing pod, the iPod allows users to get a level of privacy in their music that they would not be able to get in most other conditions.

The iPod manages to do this through providing several things.

First, the sheer number of songs the iPod and iPod mini can hold make certain you can listen to a long list of songs without interruption. This is vital in being able to 'escape' to your own private musical environment. Second, the level of quality permits users to be absorbed in the music, rather than cringing at static and other signs of low quality sound.

Finally, the iPod and iPod mini both provide enough features where you have full control of how your music is played. This is the key to making certain that you can enjoy your music just in the way that you like.
