iPod vs. iPod Mini Product Comparison

By Rebecca Blain

The debate between the iPod vs. iPod mini is one of the most popular that individuals seeking an high quality mp3 player have to face.

Both of the devices have a wide range of features that make them equal in the mp3 player market. However, there are a few key differences that should affect whether you buy the mini rather than the full sized iPod. (Keep in mind that both players can play music from iTunes.)

The first key point in the iPod vs iPod mini debate is the size. These two devices share a similar size, both small and compact, and easy to carry around.

However, true to its name, the mini is slightly smaller, which makes certain that you can carry it around when you want. However, with the size, comes the fact that the iPod mini has less hard drive space than the iPod. Instead of 30gb to 60gb, you are limited anywhere from 1gb to 6gb of data with the mini.

The price difference between the two units more than makes up for this problem. The iPod mini costs significantly less than the iPod, in a price range that most college students can afford. This makes it highly popular with the younger crowds.

On the other hand, however, the full iPod comes with more accessories and a few more features that give it a continued edge over the iPod mini. Accessories, including stereo systems, docking stations, and adapters, allow you to take your full sized iPod more places.

Battery kits and other devices for the iPod that aren't yet available for the iPod mini also help to secure advantages for the iPod. In any case, either device is fully functional, and can be used to take your mp3 library anywhere. If you are interested in carrying your entire library with you, however, you should consider the standard iPod, as the one weakness to the mini is the fact it suffers in data storage space.
