The perfect MP3 player accessories for your iPod or other digital audio player

By Robert B.

Outfitting your MP3 player with accessories isn't something that should be taken lightly. Well, maybe it can be, but you'll be much better off if you put in some time and thought into your selections.

Don't be scared of the vast selection available to you; you should rejoice at this! And if you own a more popular model, such as an iPod or Rio audio player, you'll have even more options available to you.

Whatever you're looking for, some business has capitalized on the market to meet a consumer's need. For those rare circumstances where there isn't an available accessory, perhaps you've stumbled apon a business idea!

What types of accessories can you expect to find?

Armbands

Perhaps you like to walk or jog to keep that ole' ticker in shape. An arm band for your iPod, Nomad MuVo, etc. MP3 player could be the perfect way to listen to music while out exercising. These generally aren't one size fits all, so select the correct one for your model.

Batteries & Chargers

Depending on the type of player you own, all you may need to do is pop in new AA or AAA batteries and you're good to go. But this could be costly if you go through batteries faster than a teenager changes clothing styles. At least consider purchasing rechargeable batteries to save some money in the long run.

Or, your MP3 player may have a built in battery and needs a special cable to recharge. Also, replacing problematic batteries can damage your player if you don't know what you're doing. Your best bet is to have the manufacturer perform this; it may even be covered by a warranty.

Cables & Adapters

If you want to hook up your digital audio player to a computer, car, or home stereo system, there's likely a cable or adapter that can do the job. And don't skimp on price if you want good audio quality, the best cables do often carry a premium price tag. USB is the common type of transfer format.

Cases & Bags

Getting from A to B with your expensive player is often easier said than done. Gravity begs you to drop it; beverages want to be spilled; and walls seem to bump into you. A hard case would protect your hardware the most from these obstacles, but they aren't always convenient; they can be rather bulky and make it difficult to access your player's controls. Colored and clear plastic are the most popular options here.

Softer, more fashionable cases or bags may be just what you need, such as trendy leather cases. But don't expect them to hold up in all situations, they're best for protecting from scratches and minor bumps. Consider this form of protection more like aesthetic art.

Docking Stations

Even more fashionable than cables, a docking station is the perfect way to display, charge, and transfer songs to your MP3 player.

Speakers / Headphones

Obviously you'll want the best headphones or amazing portable speakers to listen to your music. Let's just say that many players tend to skimp on quality and comfort here. But don't worry, many companies offer great earbuds, headphones, and speakers built specifically to optimize your music listening experience. If space is an issue, consider headphones that are foldable.

That's just a start above to get the juices flowing. This list is certainly not all encompassing; you can find plenty of other entertaining goodies out there. Happy Hunting!
