Is Apple Finally Jumping Into The Streaming Music Business? Apple has announced that it has completed its acquisition of the streaming music service, Lala. With streaming music services being increasingly popular with music fans these days, it's no surprise to learn that Apple is potentially dipping its toes into a technology that provides music lovers with a smörgåsbord of endless tracks. We say, "Potentially", because there's no word from Apple yet on what their business model will be. Interestingly, Lala also provides 'cloud storage' for its users -- this means remote storage for your music that you can then use to stream to anywhere. The big question now is, "what is Apple going to do with its latest acquisition?" For many consumers, the obvious answer would be an integrated streaming music element in the iTunes Store. Arguably, this is something that Apple should have done a long time ago, rather than sticking to an outdated pay-per-click only service. But wait a minute? Could Apple also be thinking of using cloud storage? There's little doubt that if they also implemented this, it would cater for consumers who want to be able to stream their music and have a secure remote storage solution

CES 2010: 'SuperSpeed USB' products announced What's faster than "Hi-Speed USB?" That would be "SuperSpeed USB," which is apparently, um, super fast. Now, USB speed may not be exactly sexy news compared to say, Apple's tablet from heaven (cue singing cherubs). But as someone who frequently backs up gi-normous files from my computer to my many external hard drives, faster USB speed is a much more practical thing for yours truly. (We're talking 10 times the speed of USB 2.0, which is obviously a big difference.) Anywho, The USB Implementers Forum announced the first 17 products certified for SuperSpeed USB (that would USB 3.0 for you numbers-and-decimals lovers). They include an ASUS motherboard, notebooks from HP and Fujitsu, and an external hard drive from Western Digital, which also unveiled its new speedy external drive at CES. For the complete list, click on the link above. Camangi WebStation: Here's a Non-Apple Tablet That's Actually Here With the Internet's series of tubes all abuzz with the rumored announcement of a new Apple device (cough, tablet, cough) in January, not much attention is being paid to a new tablet that's, well, already here. That would be the Camangi WebStation, an Android-powered device that doubles as an Internet tablet, eBook reader, movie player and all sorts of other devices rolled into one. Besides Wi-Fi capabilities, the $399 device sports a 7-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 800x480 and various apps thanks to its Android platform. Initial pre-orders for the Camangi WebStation should now be arriving in their owners' hands, with the company stating that orders made before Dec. 16 should be delivered by the end of this month. In the meantime, check out our Camangi WebStation preview for more on the device's technical specs. A couple of months after suing Barnes & Noble for allegedly copying features from its Alex eReader Notebook, Spring Design announced a partnership with Borders at the Consumer Electronics Show. As part of the partnership, Borders' upcoming eBook store will be prominently featured on the Alex's dual display later this year. Borders announced plans for a new eBook store in December as part of a partnership with Kobo, Inc. The $359 Alex is scheduled to hit the market on February. Apple's Tablet Much Closer to Reality? For the most part, the mysterious Apple tablet has pretty much had a fairytale-like existence. Recent news accounts, though, appear to have the device one step closer to becoming non-fiction. CNBC hosts seemed quite titillated during the wee hours of Tuesday as they ruminated on reports about Apple unveiling its tablet later this month and officially launching in March. The Wall Street Journal also reported similar information about the oft-rumored tablet, citing sources "briefed on the matter." Key info from the Wall Street Journal article include a touchscreen of either 10 inches or 11 inches. But the kicker is an estimated price of $1,000 (yikes!) by an analyst with Oppenheimer & Co. If that price holds up, the Apple tablet, iSlate or whatever it ends up being called better be real and spectacular. Then again, I remember the original 8GB iPhone launching at $599 without a contract. The lesson? Never underestimate what the market would bear for an Apple product.
